Anyway you look at it, it's broken.

I sit here this morning, the day before Thanksgiving.  Thanksgiving was actually a time that was actually created after some dark historical roots of pilgrimage. Now I obviously don't boast in the reasons why Thanksgiving was created, however I do myself enjoy giving back thanks for the things in my life that God has provided and put his provision over. I bring this reason up because as I sit here looking at my Facebook news-feed or if I turn on the news I am hit in the face and in the gut with a panoramic view of a complete and utter display of a broken world. I sit and gasp at the horror of the things going on around us and the people it is affecting. In every acting party involved in the current of events that are taking place closely to home we all have something to be upset about. I am not here to speak on those behalves, but I do want to ask what part you are playing a role in? In all curiosity, I find the most interesting thing that the one thing we preach is unity but in

Psalm 119- Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path...

So about a month ago my father, Dave Trout, challenged me to read Psalm 119 everyday for I think like the next three months. Taking on the challenge primarily because it was my dad who challenged me, I obviously couldn't let him show me up. But with great humbleness I have to say life, gangs, Liberians, and food poisoning did get in the way of me keeping up with my challenge. However, I did find times to read it and all 176 verses challenged me a little bit more. I found myself reading through this chapter and being convicted but yet calmed. See this summer was long and awesome. But I can tell you there were so many times I was trying so hard to keep my encouragement up in Christ. When you are swarmed with people in poverty stricken areas, with relationships, expectations, and the weights of the world its easy to loose track of who God is and how we should worship Him not on our situation, but because He is. Psalm 119 really takes you on a realization of why it's the longest

Would heaven be heaven without Jesus?

I've been lacking in motivation for the concept of what to write about. I've been up and down the last couple of weeks in my happiness but my joy for the current moment and for the future has remained at a high. Ever find that you get your inspiration when in the shower? I wish I could remember all of the ideas I come up with in the shower, something about the water clearing space in your head. Ok, back on track. So what is your perspective of heaven? As it is described in Revelation 21:9-27, it gives a pretty illustrated detail which I love. One in particular;  " The main street of the City was pure gold, translucent as glass. But there was no sign of a Temple, for the Lord God—the Sovereign-Strong—and the Lamb are the Temple. The City doesn’t need sun or moon for light. God’s Glory is its light, the Lamb its lamp! The nations will walk in its light and earth’s kings bring in their splendor. Its gates will never be shut by day, and there won’t be any night. They’ll br

Send me to the city so that I may rebuild it.

HELLO APRIL! What an interesting month it's been with weather almost up to 80 degrees two days ago and snow today with frigid air! I've been preparing for my upcoming summer season at the Nehemiah Mission with planning VBS, devotional content, outreach events, and neighborhood youth programming. I took a step back before diving into an abyss of planning and decided to jump back into the story of Nehemiah. It's a book of the old testament that gets overlooked quite frequently because it is quite small. However, it is most definitely

Ever find that things often get lost in translation ? I mean even through our society of texting and emails we can never really get the full extent of what someone is trying to portray. Or even the he said she said type of run around where things completely get twisted and turned. I played a game with the Sunday school class whisper down the lane and the sentence given was "The big pink giraffe was eating the leaves" and what came back was "Bugs pick at giraffes eating the trees". I mean it was kind of close right? It has me reflecting a lot about what comes back around to us and sometimes we miss the whole meaning right there in front of us. Working with people that don't necessarily speak English, in fact its called Liberian English there has been many conversations where I hear one thing and it is completely opposite. And well, if you don't exactly know what Liberian English sounds like, it's a lot like holding your tongue and speaking. At least th
