Kickin' it for the Kids- Kickball Tournament

After months of planning and preparation the day that I had been looking forward too was arriving. I had many people behind me and had a lot of people looking forward to the day as well. I did everything in my own will power to get as many people as possible to come and attend the tournament to help out with my childrens program "Soul Fuel" at The Nehemiah Mission. The week before the tournament was one of the hardest weeks I have ever had in Cleveland. I was up very late the past couple nights with two little girls, Katie (10) and Kapa (12), who were scared and had no place to sleep that night. It broke my heart to see such tiny children dealing with such simple thing as sleeping somewhere safe.

Because of laws, it was very difficult to say that they could sleep at the Mission, so I told them I would drive them home in an hour or so to see if anyone was home. I fed them and brought them home. To see a home in such a devastating state was a complete shock that we were in the United States. Katie and Kapa live with their elderly grandmother and are from Liberia. All the income of the home goes to Liberia to send their mothers here to be with them. To us it looks like they don't have much at all, to them they have their family being formed back together. Driving Katie home she was scarred to enter her dark house, I told her to knock on the door and see if anyone would answer. When she came walking back the neighbor came out with a hand gun and had a terrifying look in his eyes. The car in front of me had sped off and all I could do was pray to Jesus that Katie would get in my car safely. Drained and tired the next day I had to head to Jersey for the tournament. I was feeling defeated but yet rejuvenated that I could go back home and see everyone I love.

Everything had been so perfectly put together before me that not a single dollar was spent on the tournament. When I got to the fields, that had been donated, they were all raked and ready to go without any of my doing. God had it all set up for me. When the first team arrived I was very anxious about the numbers. What if only two teams show up? I'm going to look like a complete failure here in New Jersey and back in Cleveland. It turned out that only four teams showed up to play even though I had planned for 25-30 teams that confirmed they would be there at 12:30 ready to play. That whole time I was concerned with the numbers I was reminded that Jesus was never interested in the crowds, never interested in the numbers. In fact, when He had the crowds he spoke the truth and whom ever was committed was there and those who were not, left. Jesus was interested in the level of commitment of His followers and the people who were supposed to be there, were.

Those four teams brought as much as 15 teams would have, and I was worried? God prepared that day perfectly and it was such a blessing to have that shown to me after such a long exhausting week. God takes care of His people and His people take care of His people. I thank you God for each person that was put in my path and I thank you for never failing me even when I am not focused on You.

Precious Lord reveal Your heart to me.
